Mason Lockhart and Josh Muir are pleased to announce that Lockhart Legal changed name to Lockhart Muir on 23 January 2023.
Lockhart Legal was established on 1st October 2009 by Mason Lockhart on his return to New Zealand after working as a Senior Legal Advisor for Heineken International in Amsterdam. In February 2011, Lockhart Legal acquired the practice of Derek Cutting & Co and the practice shifted from Newton to 31-33 Great South Road, Auckland . Lockhart Legal then acquired the practices of David Thwaite in May 2012 and John Sellers in July 2015. In March 2021 the practice moved to Level 1, 7 Owens Road, in Epsom, Auckland.
In June 2017 Josh Muir joined the firm and injected a new commercial client base. Josh joined Mason as a director and shareholder of Lockhart Legal in April 2019.
In January 2023, the name of the firm was changed to Lockhart Muir to reflect this partnership.
In February 2023, Lockhart Muir acquired the practice of Horrocks Hampton, which resulted in the opening of a second office for Lockhart Muir in Takapuna, Auckland.
The firm continues to enjoy strong organic growth thanks to recommendations and referrals from Mason and Josh’s loyal clients.

Legal Administrator
Rebecca started with Lockhart Muir in mid-2023 with the intention of filling in until a new administrator for the Takapuna office could be found. She loved working with the team so much that she kept extending her stay, and now she has finally been persuaded to add her face to the website, alongside her faithful sidekick and Lockhart Muir office mascot, Maggie Mae. Rebecca is married to Lockhart Muir director Josh Muir and has been pleasantly surprised to discover how much she enjoys working with Josh every day!
Rebecca has a background in law, having been admitted to the bar in 2012 but finding that there was far too much sitting still for her when practicing as a lawyer. She then moved into teaching and youth mentoring, which is much more her style, but she is currently enjoying supporting the team at Lockhart Muir with her favourite parts of the job being hot beverage delivery and looking after clients. Rebecca also supports the team with legal drafting and a spot of office decoration when appropriate.
